Photography is an art. I try to create my images capturing the earth's natural beauty and show an appreciation for what is offered to me. Each sunrise, every thunderstorm, a fresh fall of snow after a long autumn... these, I treat as gifts. I perceive these events as a journalistic photographer would, attending a presidential photo op or a sports photographer
covering the super bowl.

What's the difference in creating beautiful images and simply taking pictures?

First, it requires having an artistic eye. When I photograph a scene I "feel" the pieces  of the composition fall into place. I move my prospective while framing the scene. What to include, emphasize the light, balance the negative space and assess the values.

Secondly, I have to be prepared, anticipate when an event of natural beauty is going to occur. "Chance favors the prepared", I believe Ansel Adams said that.

Third, know what your equipment is capable of and how to push it to it's limits.  Strive to create the best possible negative. Do not rely of Photoshop to bail you out.
Photoshop is my darkroom where I process the negatives to give the greatest recreation of the visual moment.

Instead of saying, "You should have been there to see it."
Listen to the viewer say:
"Wow that's an awesome picture, I wish I could have been there!"

Then you know your photographs are an art.

This year we are offering our new
"Calendar Creator" which lets you pick
the photos you want for each month.
We have assembled an awesome collection of photos all taken by photographer, James Geddes.
Calendars are 11x17 when hung and are hand made by the artist. These are not mass printed, these are the real deal!

You may also order the "Artist's Choice" Calendar (cover displayed at left). View the months and images here.

Our "Calendar at a Glance" can also be created
in the Calendar Creator gallery. Click the image that you want
for the main photo and then select which size you want,
16x30 or 12x18. The calendars are printed by the artist on
adhesive photo fabric. This way you can hang it without holes,
move it when desired and take it with you.
Will stick over and over again, hundreds of times!

This Calendar at a Glance was created for the LaConner
1000 Trails membership preserve. Special requests gladly
accepted.
